Daily exercise and a healthy diet can do amazing things for the body and mind. At Wood Creek Academy, boys get plenty of fresh air and at least 3 hours of exercise daily. Our diet is basic and nutritionally sound.

Our Students attend the Serv Safe program for food handling to learn to properly cook and store food. They spend time in the kitchen with the cooks learning to cook and clean up properly. By the time a student leaves Wood Creek Academy he is fully competent to live independently creating a budget, preparing grocery shopping list, preparing food, planning leftovers and cleaning up after himself.

Calisthenics are a part of our every day exercise program. Residents set weekly goals in exercise and weight control. We have a weight machine outside that is used by upper levels. There is a mountain trail that the young men can hike and they regularly play football. We also have a basketball court and are in the process of putting together a Frisbee golf course.

 

We plan outward bound type experiences during the winter which includes skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. In the summer we offer swimming, hiking, camping, kayaking and fishing. The summer is also an excellent time for community service including cleaning miles of highway. School is year round but during the summer many days are spent outside doing cleanup projects in the forest.
